Balance Sheet Reconciliation Pack

What it does

A single bank reconciliation proves one account. This builds the pack that proves the whole balance sheet: every asset, liability, and equity account on the trial balance gets its GL balance tied to its own supporting schedule or subledger, with the difference either fully classified or reported as unexplained.

It extends the matching-and-classifying discipline from bank-rec-to-gl — never plug, classify every difference by cause, age everything that stays open — to the entire chart at once, and adds the question a single-account reconciliation can't answer: is anything missing?

What it proves

Coverage first: an account with a balance and no supporting schedule is flagged NO SCHEDULE, not silently skipped. That is usually the highest-risk line in the pack, because nobody has looked at it.

Then, for every account that does have a schedule, the same rule applies without exception. It never plugs. A difference that can't be explained stays visible as unexplained and the account is reported INCOMPLETE, not folded into a vague reconciling item. Items carried from a prior pack are aged from their true first-appeared date, and anything identical for three or more consecutive periods is flagged RECURRING — a signal that it's a systemic posting error, not timing.

What you get

Six tabs:

  1. Completeness Summary — the chart-wide dashboard: accounts covered vs. not, tied vs. explained vs. incomplete, sign-off rate, and every account ranked by absolute GL balance so the biggest ones get triaged first.
  2. Reconciliations — a signable four-line proof per account (GL balance, schedule total, reconciling items, unexplained difference), repeated for the full chart.
  3. Open Item List — every reconciling item across every account, with classification, age, bucket, and recurring flag.
  4. Proposed Journal Entries — debit/credit ready to post for anything flagged as needing one.
  5. Aging — per-account totals bucketed 0–30 through 180+.
  6. Exceptions & Memo — accounts with no schedule, accounts still incomplete, unidentified items, and recurring items, plus a standing reminder that a pack covering "most" of the chart is not a complete pack.

Where it stops

It computes coverage, ties balances to schedules, ages open items, and tells you exactly which accounts and which dollars are unexplained. It does not decide why a difference exists — classifying a reconciling item is the reviewer's judgment. It also doesn't build the underlying schedules (the AR aging, the fixed asset register, the AP subledger); those come from their own source systems or their own skills, and this pack consumes them and proves the whole chart against them.
