Board Package Builder

The board package is the one deliverable a CFO personally owns, start to finish, every month, and it's also the one most dependent on manually pulling the same components together from scratch: a P&L and balance sheet off the trial balance, an account-movement view of cash, a KPI page someone updates by hand, and flux commentary written under deadline. This is a mechanical compilation, not a presentation-judgment tool: it guarantees every number traces back to a specific TB account and that nothing is estimated or silently invented, and it leaves the sign conventions and the narrative judgment to the preparer.

What it does

This skill assembles the monthly board package, P&L, balance sheet, a KPI page, flux commentary, and a cash tab, from the current trial balance, KPI definitions, flux commentary (typically the output of the flux-narrative skill), and optional prior-period figures. Every number on the P&L and balance sheet sums directly from the TB, debit minus credit per account exactly as recorded, with a hard gate that blocks the whole build unless the TB balances and every account has a recognized P&L or BS type. Everything softer, a KPI that can't be computed, a flux line with no commentary, a cash account with no prior balance, is reported as a named exception rather than guessed at.

The one rule it can't skip

It never applies presentation judgment. No revenue/expense or asset/liability sign flip, no equity rollforward, and no classification of cash movements into operating, investing, or financing activities; all three are judgment calls that belong to the preparer, and the package says so rather than making the call silently. What this skill guarantees instead is traceability: every figure on every page links back to the specific TB account or accounts it was built from.

How the assembly actually runs

The P&L and balance sheet sum directly from the current trial balance's account_type field (only P&L or BS are recognized; anything else blocks the build). The KPI page computes each defined metric only from the TB accounts its mapping names, with an explicit add or subtract operator per account; a KPI referencing a missing account or an unrecognized operator is marked not computed rather than partially built from whatever did resolve. Where prior-period figures are supplied, the cash tab becomes an account-level movement rollforward, current balance minus prior balance per balance-sheet account, plus net income as recorded, with no attempt to classify the movements further. Flux commentary supplied for the period is inserted onto its matching line verbatim; a line with none is marked "(commentary not supplied)" rather than filled in.

What it won't do

It won't flip a sign, net an equity rollforward, or classify a cash movement into operating, investing, or financing activity; all three stay with the preparer, and an inverted sign in a board deck is exactly the kind of error this skill won't quietly fix for you. It won't build a cash flow tab at all without a prior period to compare against; it states that plainly instead of fabricating one. It won't drop a duplicate account name found in the TB; balances are summed and the duplication is flagged, not silently merged without a trace. And it won't write new flux commentary; a line with none supplied is marked as missing, never generated.
