Consolidation Rollup

A controller at a company with five entities closes five sets of books, then spends days stitching them into one trial balance that has to tie back to each source. This consolidation rollup skill does the stitching and shows its work: every consolidated figure traces to the entity balances behind it.

What it does

The consolidation rollup takes each entity's trial balance and maps its accounts to the group chart of accounts. It translates foreign-currency entities into the reporting currency, applies the intercompany eliminations, and produces one consolidated trial balance. Each consolidated line lists the entity amounts, the mapping, the translation adjustment, and the elimination that produced it.

A reviewer reads the result as a bridge from entity totals to the consolidated total, not as a single number to trust.

The one rule the consolidation rollup keeps

Every balance gets mapped, or it stays visible as unmapped. A new account added in one entity mid-quarter is the usual culprit: it has no mapping, so a careless rollup drops it, and the consolidated trial balance ties to nothing. Here, an unmapped account is held out of the total and listed on an exceptions tab, and the rollup does not report as complete until a reviewer assigns each one.

How the rollup runs

The skill works in a fixed order, so each step has clean inputs:

StepWhat happens
1Load each entity trial balance and confirm each one balances on its own
2Map entity accounts to the group chart and list anything unmapped
3Translate foreign-currency entities at the rates supplied
4Apply intercompany eliminations for the proven portion of each pair
5Build the consolidated trial balance and the entity-to-consolidated bridge

If an entity's trial balance does not balance before the rollup starts, the skill stops on that entity and says so. A rollup built on an out-of-balance input would only spread the error.

What a complete rollup requires

The consolidated trial balance is complete when every entity balance is mapped, every translation uses a supplied rate, every elimination reflects the adjusted intercompany position, and the bridge from entity totals to consolidated totals ties with no plug. Any residual intercompany difference is shown on its own line instead of netted away.

What it won't do

It won't choose your FX rates or decide which rate type applies to which account. You supply both. It won't decide the accounting treatment for a new entity or an acquisition. It won't book the consolidation entries. It also won't replace the intercompany reconciliation that proves two entities agree with each other before eliminations apply.
